an unfinished figment of something;

Three steps into the house, Everly Cordoruen regrets her decision earlier that morning. It’s too soon, she told herself; it’s too early in the year for allergy medication.

The house, unfortunately, disagrees.

Everly coughs and spins in the entry hall, debating whether it’s worthwhile to regret an even earlier decision – the decision to bid on the house during the silent auction – but then the February clouds shift, and the light filters through the stained-glass doorway half open behind her, and the regrets are gone.

Seeking Beta Readers…?

I have eight remaining beta reader spaces I’m looking to fill for the first beta round of Our Petty Poisons. First, some stats:

Blurb: When a banished mer-snake’s attempt to steal from the jungle’s most notorious energy cartel leaves him physically chained to the cartel’s human prisoner, he must guide her through the desolate swamps of his homeland. But the poison coursing through her veins might just kill her before the swamp or the cartel leader can — if the two unlikely allies don’t destroy each other first.

Word Count: 74,500 words
Signup Deadline: April 29th (or until there’s been over 20 applicants, whichever comes first.)
Reading Deadline: July 15th
Words per week: About 7.5k

Do I need to read Our Bloody Pearl before I read Our Petty Poisons? Nope! While these books exist in the same world, you can read them in any order.

What I’m looking for in beta readers:

People who can relay their opinions and interpretations of the story in a coherent manner, as well as why they came to those opinions and interpretations. (i.e. I’m not looking advice on what to change, but I am looking for people who can think critically about a story and convey those thoughts through writing.)

Since a few of these characters are neurodivergent (especially autistic), I would love to have neurodivergent (especially autistic) beta readers!

How do you apply?

Fill out this quick sign up form. I will privately message you a link to the first chapter (~2k words long). After you read it, you’ll message me between 40 and 300 words of feedback. (I’ll provide a list of things to consider while reading if you’d like ^^)

Note that all feedback for the actually beta reading round will come through questionnaire forms, but this method is a lot easier for me to deal with during the application process.

That’s all. Peace out, loves.

Yesterday I sent out my first email update on CRBD to nearly 100 people!

If you want sneak peeks and updates on Clover Raine as well, shoot me a message with your email or sign up through my website at kiramartinauthor.com

I don’t send out many emails (I’ve been collecting them for over a year but sent my first email yesterday 😅), so don’t worry about spam! In the future you can expect an email releasing my press packet as well as offering first opportunities for advanced reading copies. Another email will reveal the cover and the date of the release 😊

I need 10 more emails to reach 100. Help a writer out?

Beta Reader Call!

I am looking for a dozen or so beta readers for my soft, fantasy-esque, science fiction novella.

Mercenary partners Dlan and Ashalle escaped the pain of their past lives to find relative peace with one of the last free galaxies of the Bijou Cluster. Hunting smugglers and terrorist holds its dangers, but it pays well and the perks are good: a lover on each arm for Dlan and an ancient piece of architecture to free-climb for Ashalle. But their cozy lifestyle shatters when the spectral woman responsible for their liberalization reappears, demanding they rescue the crowned heir of the most heinous galaxy in the cluster — and Dlan’s only sibling.

With no hope of recovering the mythical quasar energy source the ransomer demands, Dlan and Ashalle make plans to sneak onto his nearly impenetrable planet. But as they come closer to their target, the secrets of their pasts emerge, threatening to swallow them whole.

You may like this book if you enjoy:

  • Alien Demons.
  • Lesbians in space.
  • Over dramatic siblings.
  • Quick reads.

Quasi Stellar has two (and half point) of view characters and is currently about 44k words, broken into four unequal parts.

I don’t have a strict read-by deadline, but I would prefer that anyone who plans to participate in nanorimo has it finished before November 1st. Other readers may take the rest of November if needed. The deadline for applications is September 14th. Please do not boost this post after that day!

To apply, read Part I and respond to its questions!

Note: Part one is only about 6% of the full story, not the first quarter. The inciting event occurs in the chapter following this segment.

No time to beta read but still want to support my writing career? Remember to post your reviews for Our Bloody Pearl on goodreads and amazon!

Last day to apply!

in other news: my dog likes to come tell me when i stay up “late” that it’s bedtime. she will wake up and just come stand and stare at me until i ask her if she’s ready for bed, and then we will go back to the bedroom together.

Our Bloody Pearl fanblog shenanigans.

I know a bunch of you have expressed interest in being a part of the OBP fandom, but I also know that it’s still a really small fandom and that makes it hard to connect with other fans. (And lets face it, it can be kind of intimidating when the author is there breathing down your neck.)

So I’m thinking of creating a multi-member fanblog of OBP. I’m more than happy to set it up and produce author approved guidelines and the whole shebang, but I also don’t want (or feel comfortable) being the sole head of my own book’s fandom. Therefore, I want to make sure there are other people interested in helping run a blog like this.

Things this blog would hopefully do:

  • Reblog fanworks.
  • Create fanworks.
  • Catalogue time consuming fanworks like fanfic and fanart to make them easy for people to find.
  • Catalogue any other fan blogs that arise.
  • Give me a place to run fanwork based contests (with prizes!) once the fandom is large enough.
  • Develop a list of other stories with similar themes for fans to explore.
  • Connect new fans with the fandom.

* fanworks being fanart, fanfic, memes, incorrect quotes, theories, aesthetics, ect, including those for fan ocs and aus.

Probable member responsibilities:

  • Check on the blog occasionally.
  • Check in the OBP tag occasionally.
  • Post an least one OBP fanwork while they’re a member.

Please comment or message me if you would be interesting in being a member of this blog.

Like or reblog if you would follow this blog, should it be created.

It looks like not enough people are interested in this to make it worth trying to squeeze into my schedule, so if you would be sad if it didn’t happen please let me know now!
